Maine Families: prob. b. Stoneham MA 4 May 1730 and bp there 10 May 1730 dau. of Thomas & Phebe Geary (Stoneham VRs, p.28) and widow of Ebenezer Houghton of Bolton MA. Ebenezer Houghton d. Bolton MA bef 6 Aug 1875 when the administration of his estate was granted to his widow, Phebe, with one of the sureties being Thomas Geary (Worcester Co MA Probate 176: 209). An Account related to the adminstration dated 20 Seep 1757 indicates that Phebe was then married to Thomas Houghton, Ebenezer Houghton being called her "former husband" (Worcester MA Probate 4:510). Ebenezer's identity has not been proven, there being several Ebenezer Houghtons born in the Lancaster/Bolton MA area in the period 1710-1730. While Phebe's parentage has not been absolutely proven, she was most probably the daughter of Thomas Geary of Stoneham MA. This Thomas had other children named Jonathan, Susanna, Nathan, Keziah and "Cattern" [Catherine] (Stoneham MA VR, pp. 26-28, the surname also given as "Gary"). The Dinsmore Genealogy gives Phebe's maiden name as Phebe "Gerry" . It is noted that a Thomas Geary (prob father or brother) was a bondsman for the administration of the estate of her first husband. A "Gerry" Houghton appears in the 1830 census of Madison ME, he prob being a son of her son Nathan Houghton, lending credence to the claim that Phebe was a Gerry or Geary by birth. Phebe named children Keziah (by first husband), Thomas, Catherine and Nathan (by second husband), all of which were names of her proposed siblings.

Mother: Phoebe Wyman (born June 11, 1702, Woburn, Essex, MA) Children are as follows:(1) Jonathan Gerry (born May 24, 1729, (2) Phebe Gerry (born May 4, 1730 in Williamstown, Berkshire, MA, married Thomas Houghton on February 9, 1757 in Harvard, Worcester, MA), (3) Thomas Gerry (born March 15, 1731/32), (4) Susanna Gerry (born March 3, 1733/34), (5) Nathan Gerry (born May 1, 1735), (6) Keziah Gerry (born April 23, 1737, (7) Keturah Gerry (born May 10, 1738 and (8) Catherine Gerry (born May 4, 1740).^9,5

Problem

Per Harvard Records [death of Thomas], this Thomas can't be father of Phebe Gerry's children; Maine Families in 1790 continues the erroneous tradition of identifying this Thomas with husband of Phebe Gerry⁵
