ResearchMarina Cole: Also, I suspect that Anis, bp at Harvard in 1763, is probably daughter Eunis/Eunice. I couldn't find the original record, so I can't say for sure. But she is mentioned in her father's will as her only daughter.
ResearchMarina Cole: I think that she is likely the Eunice Houghton who married Timothy Kendall.   Eunice's guardian Jonathan Knight was a first cousin once removed to Timothy Kendall.  Jonathan removed to Cheshire Co, NH in the 1790's.  Also, Saul's daughter was baptized in 1766, which doesn't match the age at death.  It could be a delayed baptism of course.  Ephraim's will was also witnessed by a Kendall.

BiographyJWH: "It is probable that Major Edward with his wife, Ruth; his mother, Lucretia, who is buried in his lot at Guilford Center; and his brother, James, came from Lancaster, Mass, the home of the family in America... Major Houghton owned the largest and best farm in the center of Guilford and had fine buildings on it. Part is now called the Guilford Springs Farm. He also owned a tannery near by, just below the Fesenden House, now the barn of the Grange Hall, where Royal Tyler once lived and wrote the first American play, called the Algerine Captive. He was a man of large, and fine spirit and ability. The title of Major was probably honorary, given at June Trainings. The Major was once wealthy, but the failure of his only son, Edward, the idol of his heart, in New York City, led him to surrender about all his money there, and this with the shrewdness of his bookkeeper and later partner in the tannery, Lyman Hunt, who became wealthy out of it, left Major with but little. He died at the home of his son in New York City. He was an ardent Episcopalian. He bought several pews in the first Congregational Church at Guilford Center and was broken hearted when, despite his efforts, it became Universalist. His picture and his wife's painted well in oil on wood are in the possession of a descendant, Mrs. Nina Bernard C. Johnson, at Guilford Center, Vt. Another descendant, Mrs. Joseph Bradley, of Hudson, Mass, has made good photographic copies of them."

Hist. of Guilford, VT, 1961, p. 372: "The old tavern property at Guilford Center village was built...about 1800...Chase conveyed it to John Barnard, who deeded in 1806 to Edward Houghton, who deeded to his son Edward Jr., in 1823. It was apparently leased for a time, as Loring Kingsbury operated it in 1820, and until 1831...It was later sold to Thomas Lynde, who sold in 1834 to Edward Houghton Jr. He deeded in 1835 to Brutus R. Merrill, who occupied it for some years. He conveye it to Abel Houghton, who sold to Nathan Conant in 1840."; p. 375, In 1823 Edward Houghton conveyed to his son Edward Jr., land had of Lemuel Putnam in 1812 including a bark mill and water privilege, so the mill was probably built by Putnam. In 1833 Houghton sold one half interest to Thomas Lynde, the location being "opposite the house where Asa Bartlett lives." In 1834 Thomas Lynde deeded to Edward Houghton Jr. 3 acres on west side of road and tan vats north of the tavern. The bark mill pond is referred to in the land records as late as 1844. In 1845 Edward Houghton deed to Geo. A. Hunt 2 acres on the west side of the road on Broad Brook with a tannery, boot shop, etc; one third interest was deeded to Wm. A. Taggart. Houghton must have come into possession again as he, then of New York City deeded in 1851 to Geo. Boardman a tannery and boot shop, etc; p. 376, In 1840, Edward Houghton conveyed to Jonathan Dunklee of Guilford, the hay scales at Guilford Center.

Off. Hist. of Guilford, VT, 1961, p. 376: "Willard Martin Store: This store was at the sourtwest corner of the corssroads, in Guilford Center where the Library now stands. In 1808 Edward Houghton conveyed to Cyrus Martin four rods square with new store in corner of the roads, opposite Samuel Clark's store; in 1813 Houghton deeded to Willard Martin one half interest in four rods squrare and store also interest in Houghton and Martin potash etc. In 1818 Cyrus conveyed to Willard Martin land and store built by Edward Houghton and Cyrus Martin, opposite the store purchased by W. Martin of Samuel Clark.

Houghton Distillery: In 1812 Edward Houghton and Henry Billings erected a distillery on the Houghton farm, on the east side of the road to Leyden, the
land being conveyed by James to Edward Houghton, who deeded it in 1814 to Nahum Cutler, Elihu Field, Artemas and John Gale, with the use of a certain spring of water.

Chase conveyed 130 acre farm to Edward Houghton...who deeded to Stephen Wheeler in 1830;p. 302, land deeded in 1793 to James and Edward Houghton; sold to Levi Houghton of Petersham MA; p. 332, in 1795, Daniel Wells conveyed land to Jas. and Edward Houghton; p. 368, land bought from Jotham Bigelow by James and Edward Houghton in 1789. Biography

BiographyEunice Houghton was a daughter of Edward and Lucretia (Richardson) Houghton,[1] likely born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, as her sister was born there in 1762.[2] Her birthdate was probably after 1765, since she marked as 26-44 in her 1810 census.

Her parents removed to Guilford, Vermont, and were the only Houghton couple of the appropriate age range living in Guilford when Eunice Houghton of Guilford married Samuel Denison, son of David and Desire (Smith) Denison, on 23 November 1786.[3] Her husband being born in 1763, we guesstimate her birth as 1766.

They lived in Guilford in 1790.[4]

Sometime after this, the couple removed to Fabius, New York -- a popular place for children of Guilford, Vermont-/Leyden, Massachusetts-area exiles of Southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island, of which Samuel was one. They have not been found in an 1800 census -- they may have been living with some other couple there.

What is known is that Samuel died some time before 1810, when Eunice Denison is found as head of household in Fabius, with a family of [1 2 2 - - / 2 1 - 1 - - -].[5]

David Denison, son of Samuel Denison, late of Fabius in the state of New York, minor above 14, chose Stephen Blaisdell of Leyden, Massachusetts as his guardian on 14 May 1822, with Joseph B. Denison (a cousin of David's by Samuel's brother David) as surety for the guardianship bond.[6]

No further of record of Eunice has yet emerged. The guardian with which her son David took up seems like it must be a clue of sorts, but hasn't yet yielded a further sighting of her.

Note: The Denison Genealogy (1963) states "Moved to Ohio," perhaps referring to some or all of this family, with the following incomplete record of children:
