I went on Family Search and there are several references to an Anna Houghton married to James Robinson in 1799 at Lancaster MA. But, in the Lancaster MA VRs by Nourse, there is no James Robinson listed, only a James Robbins/Robins, who married a Nancy Houghton in Lancaster MA on 13 June 1799. There are also several refernces on Ancestry.Com to Anna Houghton, dau. of Phinehas and Ruth, who married a Solomon Corliss, 26 apr 1792 Shrewsbury MA.
This is still a puzzle.

Biography

JWH: "John was a very skillful mechanic and inventor of many useful machines."; MLM: a carpenter; spent his youth in a home less than a quarter of a mile from that of Royall Tyler at Brattleboro VT, the eminent jurist and playwright. It is assumed that John named his eldest son for him."

Rev. Royal Houghton: a carpenter, made houses and machinery. He could make anything that was made of wood.^17,18
