He began his career as a supervisor of theatrical moving after a brief stint in World War II shipyards and a job as furniture finisher. As a youth, he also played drums in local dance bands. Working for City Transfer Company and its recent successor, Citrans, Mr. Aquilina was so widely respected for the care given to rare musical instruments and delicate theatrical props that touring companies from all over the world invariably requested that he supervise their loading and unloading tasks here. He managed all loading and unloading for the San Francisco Opera and Symphony Orchestra. Musicians such as symphony harpist Louise Chow relied on him to move their instruments and scores of performers, such as Carol Chahning, looked to Mr. Aguilina to manage their belongings.
