Upon discharge, Joe returned to his family home in the Portola District where he lived for the remainder of his 92 years. Joe met Irene, his wife of 56 years, at a USO dance. They were married in 1950 and remained married until Irene passed away in 2007. Joe owned the White Palace Liquor Store in the Portola District for many years. In 1967, he moved on to United Airlines where he was employed as a jet mechanic until his retirement.
Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. Joe's fondest memories were those of hunting and fishing with his brothers and fishing with his long time friend, Pete. Joseph Charles Camilleri was also known as Joe Camilleri.4
