Marina Cole: His estate was administered by his son Samuel. In the settlement in 1828, seven children are named Samuel, Ezra, Joel, Delia Houghton, Sally K Griffin, wife of Charles Griffin, Sophia Houghton, wife of Fiske Houghton, Lucy Hadly, widow. Elijah Houghton signed as guardian to Joel Houghton. An earlier 1820 settlement includes Salmon, who also had Elijah Houghton as guardian.

Research

Last 4 children of John Houghton and Mary Allen (Sally, Ezra, Joel, & Lucy) given, dateless, by JWH, undated, are almost certainly the children of Benjamin Houghton (1771-1819) and Lucy Willard (1768-1827). They have been transferred there.¹⁶

Donna: There is a booklet with multiple pages documenting the births, deaths, and marriages of Jonathan's family (of unknown origin). Lists 1737-1842.
The booklet appears to have been sent by Mary Gleason Houghton, widow of Rufus Houghton, for pension purposes to US Gov office by her agent Mr. McGee.

Ancestry.com: Donna: All the papers belong to the [military pension] investigation on Rufus. The family correspondence between their Lawyer and the committee to prove Rufus was in both wars of 1776 and 1812. Rufus lied about his age when he enlisted into the war of 1812 .

As for how I'm related I'm still researching my Asa Houghton he could be a cousin or son .
My search style may bother you but this is the only way I can keep track without losing what Info I have found .

with the Assessments of Cramahe I have Joshua W Conklin listed alongside Jonathan Gleason and Patrick Moore , The assessments were done as a role call rather than alphabetical . So I would assume they knew each only so many families in the area in 1803 . Patrick Moore and Jonathan Gleason are found seated near or signed the assessments together in a number of assessments.

Asa Houghton was listed with the Gleason boys in the Military .

Asa's son Joshua W Houghton named a child Luther possibly named after Luther Houghton son of Rufus.

I'm still looking into other possibilities .

Biography

Whitcomb: "Rufus Houghton, son of Lt. Jonathan Houghton, was in the Continental Army from Bolton in 1781, having gone into the service as one of the six months men the year before, at the age of 16. After the war he removed to Pittstown, Rensalear county, New York, where he married Mary Gleason and had a family. He enlisted in the War of 1812 and was in the battle of Lundy's Lane. He was killed in that battle, on 25 July 1814, and his son Luther, only 14, who had gone with him was wounded so badly that he received a pension for life. Mary Houghton, wife of Rufus, applied for a pension in 1854 and the pension records show that she received $3.50 a month."¹⁷

Young: Commerce Township is directly east of Milford Township. On the 1872 map of Oakland County, J. Houghton owned land in the NE corner of Milford Twp. and in the NW corner of Commerce Twp; D. Houghton, Jr., owned land in Milford Twp. just south of J. Houghton; D. Houghton owned land in Commerce Twp. just east of D. Houghton, Jr; James Houghton owned land in Commerce Twp. just south of D. Houghton; and Eli Houghton owned land in Commerce Twp. in the section south of James Houghton. They were all living close to each other. James sold his land in 1835 and Eli sold his in 1836, supposedly when they moved to Nauvoo.¹⁶
