BiographyReceived Commercial Art Certification, University of Minnesota 1977. (At the time, the University of Minnesota did not offer graphic design or commercial art in its regular 4-year degree program.)

Received BA in Pre-Law, 1984, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI. Did attend Law School in 1984 but left due to health problems. After I recuperated, I decided not to continue my law studies.
Member Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Chapter of Hawaii, 1985.
Member of University of Hawaii Mortar Board, 1983-84. This is an honor society that does volunteer work for the community.

Received BGS in Computer Science, 1991, Hawaii Pacific University, Honolulu, HI. This was a business-oriented degree.

Married: July 18, 1980, Grace Presbyterian Church. Husband: Gerald Yasuo Umeda, DOB 2/15/52. Gerald was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. We met at the University of Minnesota in September, 1974. My husband has a BS in Architecture and BS in Environmental Design from the University of Minnesota, 1977.

I gave birth at age 52 years, 10 months to a beautiful baby boy. His name is Garry Neal Yasuo Umeda. DOB: 3/21/2007. I think that's one of my biggest accomplishments ever!

My husband and I are ballroom dancers. We have competed in competitions mainly in California, although we did attend one competition in Minnesota. We hope to continue competing once our son Garry is older.

I like to collect vintage Christmas decorations from the 1950's, 60s, and 70s. These are not just tree ornaments, but musical decorations. I also have a small collection animated motionettes from the 1980s-1990s. I also collect and wear vintage costume jewelry from the 1960's and beaded evening bags from the 1960's.

I've very big on decorating the house for Halloween and for Christmas! I am an avid reader, especially works of nonfiction, like biographies of famous people. I am an old movie buff and enjoying making my own DVDs of classic films shown on TV.

My husband works for the Naval Public Works Center as an Architect in Pearl Harbor.
I used to work as a User Information Analyst and a Graphic Designer. Now I am a stay-at-home Mom, Homemaker3

NoteFeb 11, 1919Marshalltown, IA, USA, Article regarding their golden wedding anniversary: "Mr. Houghton is a native of New York state, having been born near Jay, June 26, 1844. He served in Company E, Second New York cavalry, participating in Sheridan's campaign at Winchester and Cedar Creek. On March 1, 1866, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Houghton, Mr. Houghton came to this country and went to live on the farm east of Albion.
Mrs. Houghton saw Marshalltown first as a mere village in the spring of 1857, when, as Charity Haas, she accompanied her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. John Galloway, to Iowa from Ohio. Miss Haas was born March 22, 1848, near Union City, Ohio, because of poor health came to the then far west in the hopes of being benefitted by the climate. Mr. and Mrs. Galloway made their journey in a "Prairie schooner" drawn by an ox team, and reached Marshalltown early in 1857 to find a few straggling buildings marking the site now occupied by a city...The Galloways and Miss Haas went north to Hardin County, settling on a farm about four miles northeast of Union. A few years later John Haas, father of Mrs. Galloway and Miss Haas, came west, and Mrs. Houghton remembers that "Johnny" Green, the old Pottawattamie chieftan and friend of the whites, was a frequent visitor to her father's home, and that her father and the Indian enjoyed many a pipe together. Mrs. Houghton has three sisters, Mrs. Lydia Galloway, Mrs. Sarah Canfield, and Mrs. C.N. Brown, all of this city. A half brother, G. R. Haas, lives at Valley City, North Dakota, and an half sister, Mrs. Laura Gilkey, at Columbus, Ohio."6,16

BiographyPollard: His father Seth in May 1811 sold one-half of his lands to Lemuel. 'It would seem that Lemuel was yet single as no house room was provided for him. We found in the Springfield Town History that one Lemuel Houghton m. Lydia Holman Sept.3, 1812... Then it was that Lemuel proceeded to buy the rights of the numerous heirs, affording the town clerk several pages of recording and revealing to us the whereabouts of the children. Deeds were made out as follows: June 5, 1815 Joseph Houghton of Jay sells his rights for $150; June 26, 1815 Seth Houghton of Paris, N.Y., sells his rights for $88.90; Sept. 23, 1815 Ebenezer Houghton of Jay sells his rights for $100; Oct 23, 1815 Jonah and Sally Houghton Bruce of Jay, N.Y. for $100; Feb. 3, 1816 Joseph and Rebekkah Houghton Bruce of Jay, N.Y. for $100. (In this deed Joseph refers twice to Becky my wife). Possibly the other children were not of age as none of them deeded their rights to Lemuel until Mar. 25, 1818, when Polly and Mehitable both sold out to Lemuel for $100 each. This left the three youngest children, Elijah, Calvin and Aaron. Calvin never deeded his rights, but he signed a receipt stating that he had sold, which is recorded... Lemuel seems to have become restless in his possessions. In 1819 he sold the Margaret Robinson property to John Woodbury. Feb 5, 1821, Wd. Sally quit all claim to a certain part of the house that was set off to her, and Lemuel deed Sally that small house standing on south side of the road...We might be pardoned if we surmised that Lemuel now had several children and wanted the big house for himself. Later in the year 1821 he sold Jonathan Woodbury all his land excepting 25 acres between Atherton's west line and the road that used to lead from the Shepard corner straight up towards the mountain. her reserved the house, however, and some room in the barn. Now the farm began to be broken into small pieces. Mar 1, 1822, Lemuel sold his sister Polly 4 1/4 acres; Calvin Houghton bought 6 acres, 78 rods in the southeast corner of the old farm from its new owner Jonathan Woodbury. The same day Lemuel sold his brother Calvin 6 acres bordering on Wd. Sally's and Polly's right. Calvin mortgaged this land to Elijah's family. April 3, 1822, Calvin gave Lemuel a receipt for $156.33 in full for 'my share in my father's estate'... The next year [1825] Lemuel, now in Sutton, Vt., deeded Aaron, the youngest brother, all the land which was assigned to him by the Probate Judge, meaning the thirds and the house which the said widow now lived in."

There was a Lemuel Houghton who signed Houghton Association document of Worcester MA in 1868.

ResearchRogers: Houghton Family Photo Album notes: "Houghton relatives about 1850, Albany." Because of stepmother (Mamma's Mother") they left Albany. Went down the Hudson River and out the Ohio River to KY to teach school. Does this mean Joseph had a prior wife. In our family albums from the Houghton Craig family we have some memorabilia of Calvin and Abbie Houghton, leading me to believe that Joseph and Calvin were at least cousins or maybe brothers.9
