Research

Michael W. Brown: I've got an interesting scenario for you. I am related to Esther M Houghton of St Louis Mo by marriage. She married Ullman "Ulla" Brown, son of Clark Brown and Elizabeth "Jennie" Franklin. Clark had a brother, William N Brown b 1854 TN, who is my gr grandfather.

Now, William Brown married (among others) Pearl West in Tonkawa Ok in 1901 and had (among others) my grandfather Donald Ray Brown, b 1911. Donald married my grandmother first, Genevieve Morrison. They divorced and he married Juanita Carson.

Here is the rub. Juanita's mother was Nora Bell Hooten of the Hickman,TN, Hooten's and goes back to the illegitimate John Booth Hooten b 1727.........

You have both these lines in your pages and I would like to know if you have a way of determining this particular Hooten/Houghton connection.

I am doing research for my (step) grandmother Juanita Carson Brown Hawn and it would thrill her to no end to know that there is another connection to our families aside from the fact that she was the "other woman" in my grandfathers life.

Born in Wethersfield, CT to Edward and Florance Houghton. Siblings, Clark, Laura Danner and the late Robert Houghton. John joined the U.S Army on his 18th birthday in 1941 and proudly served his country in the 3rd, 30th, 49th and 184th Infantry until 1945.

He joined the CA National Guard during the Korean Conflict as 2nd Lieutenant until 1952.

John is survived by the love of his life, Shirley (Warren). They met in 1948 in college and married in 1950. His children, John (deceased), Gregory (Janet), Craig (Sharon), Donald (deceased), Scott (Candace), Rebecca (Mike McCosh); eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

John worked 30 years for Butte County Weights and Measures as director. He was past president of CA Association of Weights and Measures and Western Weights and Measures Retirees. John and Shirley lived in Chico, Durham and Paradise.

A Celebration of John's life will be held at the Eden Rock Mobile Home Park off Bille Rd. and Pentz on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
