IN TALKING WITH THE FUNERAL HOME, WE SPOKE WITH A LADY NAMED AMY, WHO TOLD US THAT UNCLE VANDON WAS BORN ON FEBRUARY 2, 1878 IN FAIRBURY, JEFFERSON COUNTY, NEBRASKA. THEY FURTHERMORE INFORMED ME THAT HE WAS BURIED IN WINLOCK, WASHINGTON, A NAME MY MOTHER TOLD ME NEVER TO FORGET.
UPON TALKING TO THE DIRECTOR OF THE FUNERAL IN WINLOCK, WASHINGTON, WE WALKED THROUGH THE CEMETARY AND FOUND THE HEADSTONES OF CLARENCE HOUGHTON, WHO WAS PROBABLY NAMED AFTER JOHN C. HOUGHTON, HUSBAND OF ANNA HOUGHTON. WE ARE BUSY RESEARCHING THE INFORMAITON AVAILABLE THROUGH THE OREGON STATE BOARD OF HEALTH AND ALSO THE WASHINGTON STATE BOARD OF HEALTH, TO OBTAIN ALL OF THE INFORMATION WE CAN GLEAN FROM THE RECORDS THERE.
ALSO NEXT TO CLARENCE HOUGHTON, WHO ONLY LIVED TO BE FOUR YEARS, WAS A YOUNG LADY THAT ONLY LIVED TO BE TEN YEARS OLD. HER HAME IS BERNICE HOUGHTON. SHE WAS BORN IN 1916 AND PASSED AWAY IN 1926. I HAVE HEARD THE FAMILY MENTION HER NAME ON MANY OCCASIONS AND ALSO HEARD THAT SHE DIED OF DIABETES.
THERE IS A HEADSTONE NEXT TO HERS THAT HAD A LOT OF MOSS GROWING ON IT AND WHEN WE SCRAPED THE MOSS OFF, WE FOUND NO WRITING. AFTER SPEAKING WITH JEFF AT CATTERMOLE FUNERAL HOME, HE SAID HE HAD NO RECORD OF VANDON'S BURIAL THERE. THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER SPACE THAT COULD BE ONE FOR MABEL HOUGHTON.
HIS BROTHER, ORVILLE AND HIS WIFE ARE BURIED IN A LITTLE TOWN, JUST A FEW MILES AWAY CALLED TOLEDO, WASHINGTON. WE ARE BUSY GETTING PHOTOS OF THE HEADSTONES WITH THE ACCOMPANYING DATES, ETC. JEFF TOLD US THAT IN THOSE DAYS, THE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH DIDN'T REQUIRE PERMITS TO TAKE PEOPLE FROM ONE STATE TO ANOTHER AND BURY THEM. I STILL THINK WE CAN TURN THE UNWRITTEN STONE OVER TO SEE WHO IS BURIED THERE. THEY ARE SIMPLE STONES WHICH WERE PROBABLY MADE IN SOMEONE'S BACK YARD.

Don: my Grandmother said was that she had played with Katherine Houghton Hepburn (a first cousin-in law?) as a child and had gone to the same school. Was this in CT? I have also heard NY? I noted in one of your messages on Genforum you gave Katherine Houghton Hepburn's father and mother. If Florence was in fact a first cousin- in law that means that one of her father's brothers had to be the father of Edward Houghton whom she married.¹

SACO -- Priscilla Houghton Clark, 87, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully the afternoon of Sept. 2, 2014, at Seal Rock Health Care at Atlantic Heights in Saco.
Priscilla was born in Lewiston to Bertha Viola Hodgkin Houghton and Earl Amfield Houghton on Nov. 12, 1926. She attended Lewiston schools and graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington (Farmington Normal School) where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Sorority.
She was a home economics teacher who taught in Mapleton, Woolwich, Bath, and Gray/New Gloucester. She married and moved to Bath where she raised her four children. In Bath she was a member of the United Church of Christ.
Priscilla was a marvelous homemaker with an abundance of creativity and had interests in art (painting and drawing), cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, gardening, embroidery, carpentry, genealogy, antiquing etc. No matter the project undertaken she completed it with finesse and flair. She had an infectious laugh and enjoyed the simple things in life especially in nature; watching ducks on the pond, a crafty chipmunk, collecting rocks and shells, the majesty of trees, the beauty and shapes in the clouds, waves rolling on the beach, flowers and sitting on the Kennebec River watching the boats go by. She instilled in her four children her love for family and for nature, self discipline, organization, politeness, creativity and a desire to follow through.
She is survived by sister, Nancy Bohlen and her husband Richard N. Bohlen of Danville, Vt; her former husband and father of her four children, Maurice H. Clark of Brunswick; and their children, David M. Clark of Madison, Conn., Lisabeth C. Milliken and husband Richard of Scarborough, Michael H. Clark of Durham, N.H., and Sarah E. Szafir and her husband Dennis Langdell of Essex Junction, Vt. She is also survived by her former husband, Frank Ozzella; and by her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Priscilla's life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at 3 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Scarborough, 167 Black Point Rd., Scarborough.
The family would like to thank the staff at Seal Rock and Life Choice Hospice for all they did to ensure her comfort. Especially helpful were Missy Marchand and Angela Dupuis of Life Choice and Charlie Gilbert, Don Letellier and Catherine Tarpy of Seal Rock.
