Services will be private for Virginia L. Houghton, 77, of 356 N. Collingwood Ave., who died Tuesday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in Ithaca City Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

A native of Ithaca, Miss Houghton lived in Syracuse since 1948. She retired in 1975 as branch operations manager after 26 years Key Bank. Miss Houghton previously was employed with the U.S. War Department from 1937 to 1947. She attended Cornell University.

Miss Houghton was played softball and bowled for many years with several Syracuse leagues.

Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth McHale of Ithaca, and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made to the Syracuse Rescue Mission Alliance.

Welter-Price Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Edwin W. Houghton, 32, of Port Ewen was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. Thursday evening, Kingston state police reported.
Troopers said Houghton was arrested on a warrant obtained by Warren Mowell of Creek Locks. Mowell told troopers that Houghton was operating a vehicle which did damage to his lawn. Houghton was arrested by Trooper H. S. Rhodes and arraigned before Justice of the Peace Edward Brodsky, town of Rosendale, he entered a plea of not guilty and was committed to the Ulster county jail in lieu of $50 bail for a hearing August 6,

Basil J. Houghton, 76, of 2914 County Route 26, died Thursday evening at his home.

Mr. Houghton was the owner and operator of Houghton Farm Supply, Pierrepont Manor, retiring in 1982.

Born Dec. 12, 1920, in Parish, son of Allen P. and Mae Yager Houghton, he was a Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served in the 48th Fighter Squad in Fugi, Italy. He was discharged at the rank of lieutenant.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Ruth Bean; a daughter, Deborah Harvey, Hemlock; a son, Allen, Lacona; two brothers, Walter, Winter Haven, Fla., and Harold, Forestport; four sisters, Reba Herrick, Davenport, Fla., Beulah Donovan, Sarasota, Fla., Evelyn LaForce, Oswego, and Alma Bubb, Leesburg, Fla., three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Harter Funeral Home, Parish. Burial will be in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Oswego County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Parish United Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice.⁴
