HOUGHTON Charles H. Houghton, Jr., 86, passed away May 19, 2002. The Jacksonville native was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Mr. Houghton was a longtime resident of the Riverview community where he was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church and had retired from W. W. Gay Co. where he worked as a plumber. He was a member of the Riverview Masonic Lodge, Morocco Temple, and the Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Amanda E. Houghton; a son, Charles F. Houghton; five grandchildren, Greg Houghton, Jennifer Houghton, Sela Mogren, Mandy Barton, and Mary E. Pressgrove; and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at the chapel of COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Ave. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery. He was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Sioux City, Iowa, and came to Bradenton in 1925 from there. He was a newspaper typesetter. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of Braden River Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; a daughter, Joyce M. of California; a son, Mark P. of St. Augustine; a nephew, Richard Hopper of Bradenton; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at Braden River Baptist Church. Kicliter Funeral Home in Palmetto is handling arrangements.
