Carrie E. Maxton
COLUMBUS — Carrie E. Maxton, 95, of Columbus, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, July IX, 1981, at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Columbus. She had made her home there the past three years.
She was born Jan. 29, 1886, in Neutral, to Zeff and Cornelia King Houghton. She grew up in Cherokee County and married John L. Maxton Aug. 27, 1901, in Columbus. He died Nov. 7, 1958. She lived her entire life in Cherokee County.
She attended the former United Brethren Church.
Survivors are three sons, Elmer Maxton of Cherokee, Grover and Clarence, both of Columbus;
grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren plus several nieces
and nephews. Five sons, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters died before her.
Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Galena.
