A Columbia County native, he was born at Pine Summit Aug. 1, 1887, a son of the late James and Matilda Montgomery Houghton. He was preceded tn death by his wife, the former Susan May Keller, Feb. 1, 1973, and a daughter, Evelyn, in 1945.
Surviving are a son Thurman, Edgewater, Fla; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
