Judy Balch (GGGgranddaughter): I have been told that she died in the Dakota Territory during a tornado when a stove fell on her. I would like to know if this really happened, where it happened and especially where she is buried. Her husband and child, Lulu, may not have been there very long. They came from Iowa and George Slade was not in that area at the next census after Sarah's death. He remarried and had another daughter, Stella. I believe they had gone back to Iowa.

Biography

Find a Grave: Reuben Benjamin Houghton was the son of Joel Houghton and his wife Amy of Ogden, Monroe, NY. He was married to Ruth Ann Follansbee Ring, the daughter of Abner Ring and Mary Follansbee Ring. Reuben died young at the age of 26, and is buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Adams' Basin, Monroe, New York. Reuben and Ruth had several children, including Mary Amy Houghton who married William Henry Sigler, and Reuben Benjamin Houghton Jr. Another son was Frank Wilbur Houghton. In all there were five or six children. Ruth Ann Houghton married again after Reuben died, and her second husband was Thomas Myers, buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery too. Reuben Sr's grandparents were Ebenezer Houghton and his wife (also his cousin) Hadassah Houghton. Ebenezer was a drummer boy in the Revolutionary War with the Vermont Line. He and his family moved from VT to Maryland, Otsego, NY and there is a monument to them there. Joel Houghton was their youngest child. Joel was a grain cradle maker and an inventor. He had the patent for the first mechanical dishwasher in the United States, and photos of it can be seen on line, complete with drawings.

Wikitree: Joel Houghton was married to Amy (unknown), possibly a cousin born a Houghton. He was born in VT in 1792. His father, Ebenezer Houghton, a Revolutionary War veteran, moved with his wife, a Houghton cousin, to Maryland, Otsego, New York where his name is on a monument to the veterans of the Revolutionary War. Joel was his youngest child. Joel lived in Ontario County in NY in the1830 census. and the moved later to Ogden, Monroe, NY.

Reuben Benjamin Houhton died at the age of 26 in 1846. He is buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Adams Basin, NY next to Ogden. His wife was Ruth Ann Follansbee Ring. She is buried in the same cemetery with her new husband, Thomas Myers.

Joel Houghton was a grain cradle maker and so was Reuben Houghton. Joel got the first patent on the auto dishwasher in the US and Reuben got the patent on the Franklin Stove, and Joel supported him. Joel lived next door to the parents of Reuben's wife, Ruth Ring. They were Abner Ring and Mary Follansbee Ring Reuben had a daughter named Mary Amy Houghton named after her two grandmothers. There is so much more but no birth records for Reuben. There was no other Houghton male in that area but Joel to be Reuben's father⁸
