Obituary: on 7 October 1992: Ruth S. Mallia, 86, died Monday at Queen of the Valley Hospital of cancer. Mrs. Mallia was bom in Spokane, Wash., on Nov. 27, 1905, and raised in Tacoma, Wash. She attended Washington State University and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She met her husband on a blind date in March of 1944 while his naval ship visited Tacoma. They married in December of 1945 in San Francisco where they lived for 30 years before retiring to St. Helena. The couple lived in St. Helena for 10 years until the flood of 1986. During her residence in San Francisco, Mrs. Mallia became a lecturer and counsel affiliated with the First Church of Religious Science in Los Angeles. She operated her own painting studio on Sutter St., and was a member of the local Artists Association and Marin Society of Artists. After moving to St. Helena, Mrs. Mallia became associated with local artists groups. She was a member of bridge circles through Napa County. Mrs. Mallia is survived by her husband, Simon P. “Pat.”.
