Adapted from a biography written by Leo Albert Houghton:

He met his wife after arriving in Eureka looking for work in the booming mining operation there. He shied away from social situations and preferred to be at home with his family. He worked long, late hours as a miner and was remembered by his wife as being very devoted to his family and determined to provide a living for them. One night as he was walking home from work, he saw a fire in the distance and thought, "some poor family is being burned out tonight." As he came closer he realized it was his own home that was burning, and was completely destroyed. His elder son remembered him carrying him several miles to a doctor in the dark after the boy had been severely injured. George loved baseball, and referred to his younger son as "my little man", which led to Leo being nicknamed "Manny". George died young from kidney disease.⁴

Juliet Sperry Houghton, 93, our loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully July 29, 2002.

She was born Nov 16, 1908 in Nephi, UT to William H. and Maude Blackett Sperry. On May 22, 1925, Juliet married Thomas LaVar Houghton in Salt Lake City, UT. He preceded her in death Nov 30, 1989. Juliet was a devoted wife and mother and a wonderful homemaker.

Survivors: daughters, Betty Pickering, Jean Miltenberger, both Salt Lake City, Ann Castillo (Joe), Rio Ran-cho, NM; son, William "Gil" Houghton, wife, Renee, Salt Lake City; daughter-in-law, Janiel Houghton, Sandy; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchil-dren; and one great great-grand-child. Preceded in death by son, Richard "Dick;" daughter, Kathryn; two grandchildren, Curt, Paula Miltenberger; son-in-law, Lewis "Wally" Mil-tenberger.

Family funeral was Sat. Aug 3, 2002, Salt Lake City. Interment, Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, UT. The family expresses appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Willow Wood Care Center for their care and devotion to our Mom.¹

Born July 30, 1925, in Salt Lake City to Graham Karl, Sr., and Rhada Brighton Houghton. Married Theda Hutchison March 25, 1961, in Elko, Nevada. Graduate of East High School, 1942; graduated from the University of Utah with degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering in 1949. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. Graham worked as an engineer for American Smelting, in Salt Lake City for 10 years; Jay Mfg., Los Angeles, for 14 years, and was self-employed with Contaminant Control in Salt Lake City for 15 years. Member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #2, F & A.M. and El Kalah Temple of the Shrine.

Survived by: Wife, Theda, daughters, Traci, and Karla J; grandson, Adam C. Geery, preceded in death by son, Walter L. Geery.

The family wishes to tahnk the ICU nurses at Salt Lake Valley Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 12 noon Friday, July 28, Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 So. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Intermountain Unit of Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Daughter of Clarence and Thelma Seager Houghton.

She married Kenneth Brown Baxter on December 29, 1937. Over the next two years, they lived in California, Maryland, and Utah. They became pregnant with their first child in 1939.

Later in the pregnancy, however, Phyllis began to have various health ailments, and ultimately the baby girl died shortly before her due date.

Phyllis stayed admitted to the LDS Hospital after her daughter's stillbirth, and passed away two weeks later. Sh
