Biography

He should be the person of this name with a 1757 guardianship, Suffolk Co. Probate #11665. His pension file (#S42622, Continental Line, Conn.) is abstracted in V.D. White, Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files, 4 vols. [1990], 1:280: “Applied 22 April 1818, Portage Co., Ohio; in 1820 soldier was ae. 80, a res. of Aurora, Ohio, with wife Elizabeth ae. 74; in 1779 soldier had a wife and several small children but none of [the] children are named in the file; soldier died 15 May 1822.” Note that this Capt. Elijah Blackman -- who left numerous descendants -- has often been erroneously confused in print with a man of the same name and roughly the same age descended from the Dorchester family.¹
