Lillian Houghton known to all as "Mama Mia" died December 19, 2001, at the age of 74 at Sebastian River Medical Center. Born on Valentine's Day Lillian moved to Fla. in 1955 with her family and to Sebastian in 1974, where she founded the original "Mama Mia's" Restaurant in Winter Beach, FL.

She is survived by her son, Paul LoBue; daughters, Paulette VanderWiede, Bridget Morelli, and Ann LoBue; step-daughters, Linda Stokes, and Paula McDonald; 5 grandchildren; & 4 great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m., Friday at the Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, FL.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m., Friday in the funeral home chapel.²

The only woman to head a mutual fund. Axe-Houghton Associates traces its roots back to 1932 and a personal investment advisory firm founded by Ruth Houghton Axe, a multi-lingual financial analyst with AT&T and her husband, Emerson Wirt Axe, a Harvard educated economist working from the kitchen table of their home in Brooklyn, New York. When Emerson Axe died in the 1960’s, the company was managing five mutual funds and personal assets of over $400 million. Mrs. Axe maintained management control of the company until her death in the early 1970’s. After some ownership transition in the late 80's and early 90's Axe-Houghton was purchased by the Hoenig Group Inc. (a publicly traded financial services company) in 1993.
