Mrs. Houghton Dies at Age 74
Mrs. Mary B. Houghton, seventy-four. 1220 St Joseph St. died at Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Columbia, at 4:30 p. m. Wednesday after a prolonged illness She had been at the home for the past four weeks. The widow of Charles David Houghton, she was born in Germany, a daughter of the late Leonard and Marie Hammel. A resident of Lancaster most of her life, she was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church. Surviving are these children: Miss Maude C. and Harry, both at home; Marie B., wife of Raymond J. Kunkle, and Anna, wife of Cyrus Ames, both of Lancaster. Also surviving are five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Harold was a servant for the Kingsley family in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY in 1915. Harold was a railroad brakeman and died tragically when he was run over by a railroad engine.
He is buried in the Quincy Rural Cemetery in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY

Biography

She grew up in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY and Mill Creek, Erie, PA. Hazel married 1) Harry Daniel/David Schwab (1890 – 1956). They lived in Erie, Erie, PA in 1920 where Harry was a machinist. They lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH in 1930 where Harry was an odd job laborer. They lived in Erie, Erie, PA in 1935 and 1941, when Harry was listed as a driver.
Harry registered for the draft in WW2. In 1942, it is possible the Harry was put in prison at the Pennsylvania Western State Penitentiary. Hazel married 2) Ellis Dillard.
HSP says Hazel died in 1958 but her headstone says 1950. She is buried in the Quincy Rural Cemetery in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY.⁴
