Biography

George came to the U.S. from England in 1856 with William B. Palmer also of England. We believe they may be cousins. We think they ( might ) have come into the U.S. by way of Canada , but are not positive on that as we can find them on no passenger records either coming through Canada or ship passenger lists coming into the U.S. . We know they came here in 1856 as we show them on a Kansas Census then . George and William are both Stone and
Brick masons. They did considerable building while living there. I understand there is a saloon in Kansas City , Ks. that they build while living there and it is still standing. I am sorry to say we don't know the name of the saloon. I understand it is made of brick. George married Maggie in 1870 before coming to Oregon. We have a copy of the marriage license. We show Maggies maiden name as Leighterland although we believe it is a typo since no such last name is found anywhere. What we do believe is that she may have been the sister to Alice Litherland , wife of William Palmer. We know George , Maggie & William Palmer came to Oregon on the
wagon train in 1878. They came here as a result of the building boom going on here. George and William were major contributors of the stone and brick buildings here.⁶
