ObituaryFeb 26, 1966Harry Houghton Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday; resident for 25 years and former grocery store operator here. The Hesperian Lodge, F and AM, 264, will conduct the service. Mr. Houghton died today at his home, 2816 Sharp Road, Simi, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1891, in Crystal City, Mo.. . Mr. Houghton lived in Santa Maria from 1921 to 1946, when he moved to Simi. He had owned and operated the Houghton market, later known as the Market Spot. He was a member of the Hesperian Lodge here and past patron, Order of the Eastern Star, Mizpah Chapter 100. Santa Maria, and past president of the Simi Valley Lion's, Club. widow. Pearl, Simi. daughters, Mrs. Leona Rice, Santa Maria, and Mrs. Iola Van Ornum, Newport Beach; three sisters, Mrs. Prepa Lee, Garden Grove,' Mrs. Annie Callahan, Santa Susana, and Mrs. Lovena Burnett, Redondo Beach and six grandchildren. . . Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Reardon Simi Valley Mortuary with the Rev. Leo FIshbech officiating.

BiographyHenry Jackson Houghton was born in Tyler, Texas to J.B. Houghton and Laura Monroe Payne on February 28, 1895. Jack served in World War I enlisting on October 19, 1917 in Prescott , Arizona - serving in the 158th U.S Infantry. He married Daisy Belle Mimmick on March 9, 1918 in Coconino, Arizona. Jack was discharged at Camp Kearney on October 21, 1919. Jack and Daisy moved to Los Angeles after the war - the 1920 Federal Census indicates they lived on Wright Street and his occupation was a Street Car Motorman. Jack and Daisy had one child Charles Monroe who was born in Los Angeles on February 8, 1920. Jack was sent to the veterans hospital in Sawtelle on August 9, 1923. The Register for the U.S National Homes for Disabled Volunteer soldiers noted that he was a cook in Los Angeles (both Daisy and his brother James Earnest were listed as contacts). Jack passed away on September 27, 1923 at 714 S. Mott Los Angeles, California (death certificate Local Register #8183) . His Death certificate was filled out by his brother Stearl who listed the father's name as John Montgomery Houghton and Jack was a painter.
