ONEONTA — Seward E. "Junior" Houghton Jr., 64, of Oneonta, passed away, comfortably, on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born April 8, 1937, in Maryland, the son of Seward and Ethel Mae (Watson) Houghton.

He married Gail H. Mosher on Jan. 18, 1991, in Oneonta.

Junior was a truck driver for 42 years. He loved his work and always had his co-pilot, his dog, Cruise, by his side.

He was a member of the Sertoma Club.

He is survived by his wife, Gail H. Houghton, of Oneonta; a sister, Evelyn Strong of Oneonta; his son, David and his wife, Fawn, Houghton of Schenevus; stepson, Raymond and his wife, Jennifer, Palmeter of Oneonta; grandchildren, Brittany and Lynette Houghton; stepgrandchildren, Dakota and Jay Palmeter; nieces, Brenda and her husband, Michael, Davis of Milford and Betty and her husband, Robert, Krajcovic of Otego; nephew, Robert and his wife, Stephanie, Strong of Sidney Center; cousin, Josephine Finch of Binghamton; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his sister, Aileen Scutt; and a nephew, Tom Scutt.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 17, 2001, with family in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mel Farmer officiating.

Burial will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Junior to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
