ResearchMy last name is Horton. I have found certain Haughton lines in New England that later spelled their name as Horton. An example would be Richard Haughton of Salem MA and his son Joseph Haughton of New London, CT. I also have found a few examples of the Houghton line were they were listed as Horton. The earliest Horton I can trace in my Line is a Joseph Horton, born abt 1756 in Ct and came to Oyster Bay Long Island, NY about 1780 where he then married Janetje Probasco in 1780. My DNA did not match Barnabus Horton who we all thought we were related to.
I have been busy entering all the Horton, Haughton and Houghton from New England into my Family Tree, to see if I can find any connections.
I would greatly appreciated participating in the Houghton DNA project even if it is too eliminate lines. I have manually entered and sourced over 80,000 names in my Family Tree program of my direct lines and related families and possible connecting families.

When I went to your site, looking for Haughtons, I saw my name. Not sure you want me there as my YDNA is not Horton. It was one of those wonderful skeletons in the closet. Not public knowledge to my elderly relatives. My Horton group would be group 8 on the FTDNA surname project.

She was born in Peterborough, the daughter of Christie M. and Lila A. (Cleveland) Heath. She also was predeceased by a son, Ernie, in 2008.

She worked 30-plus years at Sylvania in Hillsborough before her retirement.

Lucille was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 59. She couldn't resist a good yard sale and socializing with friends.

She enjoyed her Sunday morning coffee clubs. She wouldn't be caught without her camera and could out-talk an auctioneer.

She is survived by her five children, Lynne, Doug Jr., Joyce, Edd and Hope, 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, whom she enjoyed and loved.

SERVICES: Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Methodist Church in Hillsborough.

Burial will be in Butler Cemetery in Deering.

Memorial donations may be made to any veterans organization.

He was born Feb. 20, 1957, in Concord, the son of Douglas Dan Houghton Sr. and Lucille M. (Heath) Houghton.
Ernie was a graduate of Conval High School in Peterborough. He was a carpenter all his life, working all over New England. Ernie enjoyed spending time with his family, having many good times with good friends, and he loved music and the outdoors.
He was predeceased by his father, who died in 1986, and a half-brother, Dan J. Houghton.
He is survived by a son, Eric R Houghton of Bennington; a daughter, Morgan D. Houghton of Bennington; three sisters, Lynne A. Chaisson and her husband, Frank, of West Springfield, Joyce E. Dolan of Holden, Mass., and Hope Whitcomb and her husband, Lee, and daughter, Tiffany Eilert, of Hillsboro; a brother, Douglas D. Houghton Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Barnard, Kan; twin brother, Edward A. Houghton and his wife, Wendy, of Hillsboro; half-sisters, Judy Mather and her husband, Robert, of West Warwick, R.I., and Linda Preston and her husband, William, of Delanco; half-brother, Robert D. Houghton of Coventry, R.I; several nieces and nephews; loving friend, Anita Broadley of Hillsboro; and friend, Leslie Weiner of Holden, Mass.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 32 School St., Hillsboro.
