Freeport, Ill. —

Robert D. Houghton, 73, of Freeport died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. Born June 27, 1936, in Freeport, he was the son of Robert and Vernice (Eisen) Houghton.

Robert served in the U.S. Marines and was a member of the Freeport VFW. On Feb. 8, 1958 he and Shirley Maher were married at Ridott Evangelical Church. He worked for UPS for 27 years, enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Freeport.

Surviving are his wife Shirley of Freeport; four children, Dale (Jaime) Houghton of Marengo, Sue (Dan) Rieger of Freeport, Jeff (Damarius) Houghton of Rockford, and Dan (Mindy) Houghton of Belvidere; seven grandchildren, J.R., Grace, Jessica, Cal, Katie, Payton, Abigail and one great grandson Aidan.

He is preceded in death by parents; infant daughter Pamela Sue; sisters Betty, Jean and June.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Pastor Caleb Kolstad officiating. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Robert’s family invites friends to extend condolences, share a memory, or light a candle in his honor at www.walkermortuary.com.

ObituaryFeb 21, 2006Marcia Karen Houghton born in Fort Myers on March 31, 1954, died of streptococcal pneumonia on February 9, 2006. A resident of San Diego, CA, for the past 20 years Marcia had worked as an accountant. A graduate of Fort Myers Senior High, Marcia attended the University of South Florida on a tennis scholarship. She leaves many memories of her love for tennis, piano playing, sewing, cooking and giving to others.
She is survived by her parents, Frances and Bill Houghton, of Fort Myers, and daughter, Tami Krae Miller, her husband, Matt, and sons, Joshua and Timothy of Montgomery, Alabama. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Brookshire and her husband, David of New York City; her brother, Mahlan Houghton and his wife, Paula, of Fort Myers; her brother, Mark Houghton and his wife, Kim, of Overland Park, Kansas. In addition, she is survived by nieces Dari Brookshire Mullins and her husband, Allen of Asheville, NC; Dayci Brookshire of NYC and Brittani Houghton of Fort Myers. She is survived by nephews J.D. Brookshire of NYC, Billy Houghton of Fort Myers and Charlie Houghton of Overland Park, Kansas, plus great nephew and nieces of Asheville, NC: Artie, Autumn and Aspen Mullins. Surviving maternal aunts are; Barbara Metts of Nashville, TN, Jackie Burns of Sanibel Island, and Dorothy Graham of Fort Myers. Surviving paternal uncle, Lester Houghton of Orlando and paternal aunt, Eleanor Bowerman of Brandon, FL. Also surviving are 10 maternal cousins and 8 paternal cousins.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Fort Myers, FL on February 26, 2006, at 6 PM. Family will receive friends at a reception following the service in the Activities Center Atrium. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in memory of Marcia Houghton at the Museum of Medical History, P.O. Box 7633, Fort Myers, FL 33911 or to First Baptist Church of Fort Myers, 1735 Jackson St., Fort Myers, FL 33901.1

ObituaryFeb 3, 2019Fort Myers, FL, USA, Fort Myers - Mary Frances Houghton, 88, a lifelong resident of Lee County, FL, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Fort Myers, FL. She was born November 19, 1930 in Fort Myers to Howard and Charlie Bell Easterlin.

Elegance, love, creativity and a giving heart best describe Fran, who passed away of cardiac arrest at Gulf Coast Medical Center. A graduate of Fort Myers High, she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Houghton, as a sophomore. After raising their four children, she enrolled and graduated from the nursing program at Edison Junior College with her RN degree. She began her career at Lee Memorial Hospital, then SW Regional Medical Center Gulf and Coast Medical Center, serving for almost 40 years on the IV team. Patients would often say, "Go get Fran. She is the only one sticking me with that needle." Gulf Coast awarded her the first Humanitarian Award as well as Nurse of the Year. Frances was truly a caregiver not only at the hospital but also for anyone in need in the community. She loved to bake and cook. Fran had many baking specialties, one of which was her homemade cranberry bread. At community fund raisers her cranberry bread was known to go for a very high price. Her true passion was flower arranging and working in her garden, which she did into her mid-eighties. She was a founding member of the Jasmine Garden Club, active for almost 50 years. Fran enjoyed being part of the women's Capital Investors Club. Fran was a member of First Baptist Church, now City Gate Ministries. She was a very spiritual woman with great faith who truly lived by Golden Rule. She always smiled and gave you a hug. We will all miss that smile.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Bill Houghton; three loving children, Martha Brookshire (David) of New York, NY, Mahlan Houghton, Jr. (Paula) of Fort Myers, and Mark Houghton (Kim) of Fort Myers; two sisters, Barbara Metts (Louis) of GA and Dorothy Dotson (Charlie) of Fort Myers; brother in law, Roger Burns of Fort Myers; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Fran was preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia Karen Crider and her sister, Jackie Burns.
