Deceased Name: Gerald Haines Houghton
of Yarrow Point died June 14, 2002, at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. He was 76. Mr. Houghton was born April 18, 1926, in Yakima. He was raised in Zillah and attended Zillah High School. Mr. Houghton served as a medic in the Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. Following the war, he attended Washington State University, graduating in 1950. Mr. Houghton played football in college and then professionally for the Washington Redskins. In 1959, Mr. Houghton moved to Bellevue and worked as a Realtor, eventually starting his own agency, Jerry Houghton Realty of Issaquah. Mr. Houghton married Ruth A. Linge in 1967, and the couple settled in Bellevue.
In his leisure time, Mr. Houghton enjoyed watching football, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Kenneth and Douglas Houghton; his daughters Cynthia Kay of Bellevue, Merrilee Knight of Yakima and Denisse Hedman of Bothell; and six grandchildren.²

Gerald Haines Houghton (April 18, 1926 – June 1, 2002) was an American football offensive tackle in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Cardinals. He played college football at Washington State University and was drafted in the seventh round of the 1950 NFL Draft. He played 14 games.⁵

Walter Donald "Don" Houghton of Kirkland, former long time Yakima Valley farmer, lost his battle with lymphoma on November 25th. Don was born May 22, 1917 in Harrah WA to Walter and Alfreda Houghton. He continued to make his home in the valley until the age of 40, he moved to Seattle and began a new career in sales. He eventually became co-owner of Alps, Inc. retiring after the sale of the company.
Don and Charlotte Husch (high school sweethearts) were married in 1935, this marriage was blessed with 3 children, Kay, Mike and Ann. Don and Charlotte were involved in farming and the dairy business before becoming hop growers. Their lives would take them to Yakima, Sunnyside and eventually back to the Fort Road in Harrah.
Don married Patriz Connor of Seattle in 1959, adding two daughters to his family, Shirley and Jeri. Don and "Pat" had 40 years together, much of that time spent cruising in their boat. They shared a real love of the water, enjoying their years as members of the "Roche Harbor Yacht Club" and making many good friends along the way.
The last 18 years were spent in Kirkland, living in an apartment that Don built in daughter Jeri's home. After Pat's death, Don continued to live there until October of this year, when Jeri and Don moved to a condo. He was privileged to spend five days sitting in his recliner admiring the view through his picture window before his health required hospitalization.
Don will be remembered as a loving father, faithful friend, a person with a great sense of humor. He was famous for his stories, though they were mostly old, he would embellish them a little and would always get a laugh. Don never knew a stranger, he liked everybody he met and would do anything for them. He just plain had charm; to meet him was to love him....
A special joy to Don in the last 7 years was the support group of 20 or so who meet early every morning in Kirkland at the Countryside Donut Shop. Don had a thing for maple bars, Mae or Michael always had one waiting for him. The days that he was too ill to make the trip, a maple bar was delivered to him by one of the gang. Through the years they shared their concerns and were really there for Don after he was diagnosed with cancer. Their many kindnesses, helping Don in so many ways, were a true blessing to him and his family.
Don was a man who talked to his God daily, he had a peace about him that sustained him through the years of physical pain, especially the three years of chemo therapy. Don was a member of the Harrah Brethern Church and attended St. John's Episcopal Church in Kirkland.
Daddy, Pappy, Grandpappy, Casey or Uncle, he answered to them all. He was the patriarch of the Houghton family, the guest of honor at the annual family reunions held at the Labbee Cabana in Harrah, WA. He never missed a reunion. When his health failed, friends would drive him over for the day.
Don Houghton is survived by daughters, Shirley Kraft (Bob), Edmonds, Jeri Creason, Kirkland, Kay Barchus (Jerry) and Ann Fraley (Dick); a daughter-in-law Willa Houghton, all of Yakima; special nieces, Marjorie Chissus, Dorothy Powell, Ellen Tengesdal and Jan Lindsey; a special nephew, Jack Labbee, who was like a brother, and sister-in-law, Torry Husch. He was Grandpappy to 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Preceding Don in death were his parents, brother Ellis, sisters, Florence, Luella and Louise, first wife, Charlotte Houghton, son Mike Houghton, wife Patriz Houghton, grandson Aaron Lindell and a nephew, Walt Holder, who was raised with Don.
Memorial services will be held December 3, 2005 at 2:00PM in the St. John's Episcopal Church, 107 State St., Kirkland, WA.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Union Gospel Mission or a favorite charity.
The many hospital visits and outpouring of love from our Father's friends and relatives touched us so much, you were so faithful. We especially thank Dave, Byron, Donna, Jacque and Stephen who came so often to sit with him. God bless you.³

Obituary

Florence M. Houghton, of Muncie, Indiana, formerly of Lancaster, passed away at the venerable age of 90 years 7 months and 18 days on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Westminster Village in Muncie, Indiana. Florence, the daughter of Grover and Maisie "Bessie" (Gates) Houghton, was born on July 10, 1925, in Lancaster, and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1943. She pursued a career in nursing, which took her to Chicago, Illinois. Florence later became a teacher at Ball State University School of Nursing from 1967 until 1986. She enjoyed traveling, which led to extensive trips overseas and throughout the United States.
Florence loved her family and keeping up with their activities.
Florence is survived by: …a step-brother, ……Gerald "Jerry" Krohn; …step-nieces: ……Vickie Krohn, ……Kathy (Rod) Schramm, and ……Sharon (Todd) Hammen; …a step-great-niece, ……Shelby Schramm; and …two step-nephews: ……Trevor and Troy Hammen.
Florence was preceded in death by: …her parents, ……Grover Houghton and ……Maisie "Bessie" Houghton, nee Gates; and …a sister-in-law, Ruth Krohn.
Private family graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township.

Diane Spas: On 20 Jan 1898, Alice married widower Charles Bohringer in Grant County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Joseph Bohringer (1822–1897) and Margaret Store (1824–1897) who married in Iowa about 1865. Charles was the father of two sons:

Elgie Joseph Bohringer 18 December 1892 – 18 December 1965

Grant Julian Bohringer 11 November 1895 – 20 November 1980

In 1900, Alice (age 19) and Charles (age 34) lived in Glen Haven, Grant County, with Charles's son, Elgie [Elzia] J. (age 8). Charles was a saloon keeper.

In 1905, Alice (age 23) and Charles (age 39) farmed in Wyalusing, Grant County, with Elgie (age 12) and their baby, Marguerite [Margaret].

In 1910, Alice (age 28) and Charles (age 43) farmed in Glen Haven with their daughter Margaret (age 6).

Charles died in 1918. On 19 October 1919, Allie married widower John Wesley Kilby. He was the son of John James Kilby (1835–1899) and Isabella Kee (1845–1915), who married on 21 November 1867 in Grant County. John Wesley Kilby had four children:
