Marie Houghton Swift, 86, of Hopewell, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank T. Swift Sr. Marie was a ward clerk at John Randolph Medical Center, a volunteer with John Randolph Auxilliary and a charter member of Liberty Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Dr. Frank "Terry" Swift Jr. (Jorene) and Elizabeth "Betty" Light (Steve); four grandchildren, Sheri Light, Steven Light (Phuong), Sara Tharpe (Bradley) and Stuart Swift; five great-grandchildren, Terrance Light, Jonah Tharpe, Quang, Minh, Anh Nguyen; and a sister, Louise Montgomery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Gould Chapel, 214 N 6th Ave. Services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2006, at Liberty Baptist Church, 3808 Woodlawn St., Hopewell. READINGTON - Earl M. Houghton, Sr., 71, of Bank Street in Whitehouse Station, died yesterday (Aug. 28, 1961) in Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Born in Markham, Va., Mr. Houghton was a self-employed mover and lived in Whitehouse Station for 18 years.
Surviving him are his wife, Elizabeth Bush; two sons, James E. of Allentown, Pa., and Earl M. Jr. of Northville, N.Y; a daughter, Leah Houghton of Whitehouse Station; several brothers and sisters and six grandchildren.
Arrangements are by TTianel Funeral Home in Clinton.

Rowland Clyde Houghton Sr., 94, of the 1300 block of Rodman Ave., a retired machinist, died Jan. 7, 1992, in a nursing home.

Mr. Houghton was born in Portsmouth and had retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church and was a member and past chaplain of Churchland Masonic Lodge 276.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Savage Houghton; two daughters, Joan Burch of Portsmouth and Joyce Carmines of Chesapeake; two sons, Rowland Houghton Jr. of Richmond and John E. Houghton of Kilmarnock; a sister, Nellie Hubbard of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Westhaven Baptist Church by the Rev. W. Thomas Wood. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, and other times at 1311 Mayflower Road.

Houghton Jr. of Richmond and Dr. John E. Houghton of Kilmarnok; a sister, Elsie June Shaw of Suffolk; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Westhaven Baptist Church by the Rev. W. Thomas Wood. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Loving Funeral Home Churchland.¹

HOUGHTON, Roland C. Jr., passed away on December 2, 2012. Roland was born November 9, 1926 in Portsmouth, Va. Roland married Clare Graybeal of Radford, Va., in 1956. Clare preceded him in death along with his son, David Clay. Roland is survived by his sons, Gray, Patrick; and grandchildren, Christina, Gray Jr. and Henry. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the Pacific aboard BB42, USS Idaho. He saw action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa and was in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the Japanese surrender. He was employed by Dominion Power for 37 years, retiring as Director of Regulatory Accounting. He was a charter member of Three Chopt Presbyterian Church in 1965 and was honored as Elder Emeritus in 2006. He attended Bluefield College and earned his BA and MC degrees at the University of Richmond in 1951 and 1963. Published in Richmond Times-Dispatch on December 5, 2012²

Richmond, VA, USA, HOUGHTON, Dr. John Edward, completed his earthly journey at age 83 on January 12, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Surviving is his devoted wife of 58 years, Edith C. Houghton; his children, Kim Pontillo (Nelson), Mark Houghton (Theresie), Paul Houghton (Dianne) and Dr. Micah Houghton (Laura); two grandchildren, Tim and Charlotte Houghton; three stepgrandchildren, JoAnne Weaver, Lynn and Mary Pontillo; and a sister, Joyce Carmines. Dr. Houghton received a Bachelor's degree and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Richmond and Masters and Doctorate degrees from the Union Theological Seminary. Dr. Houghton served as a pastor to churches in Culpeper, Fauquier, Dinwiddie and Lancaster counties. He retired from fulltime ministry in 1994, after serving Kilmarnock Baptist Church for 35 years. Following retirement he served as an interim pastor for numerous churches across the Northern Neck. Dr. Houghton was Vice President of the Virginia Baptist General Association, serving on numerous committees and as a representative to the General Board. Dr. Houghton served on the Board of Trustees for the University of Richmond and gave the Baccalaureate sermon in 1989. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, Kilmarnock. Interment will be 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.
