Survivors include his wife. Laura N; two sons. Robert of Syracuse. N.Y., and Alfred of West Coxsackie, N.Y; one brother. Elgar of Bradford, Ont.. Canada; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Biography

Was a bicycle racer in high school. He attended a seminary in USA and was ordained a minister in the Methodist Church in upper NY state. He served with the US Army in the 1914-1918 war with the YMCA. Served in many churches in upper NY state. On retirement moved to Florida and became, among other things, a taxi driver.⁶

Taught at Pense again and went to Scott Collegiate in Regina in 1923. Taught there (Latin & History) until 1950. After retirement taught with ICS for 5 years. Started schoolboy curling in Regina and took teams all across Canada. Wrote a book on curling rules and regulations.

HOUGHTON — Funeral services for Jean Thompson Houghton. 79. who passed away Wednesday at her home. 121 5th Ave No. will be held at 5 pm. Friday at The Palma Memorial, with the Rev Dr. Paul R. Hortin officiating. Interment will be in Syracuse, N.Y. Mrs Houghton, a native of Pittston. Pa. was a winter resident here from Weedsport, N Y. for 16 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church, and with her husband, the Rev. Dr. Samuel G. Houghton, was very active in church work and in missions and with young people. Resides her husband. she is survived bv 2 sons. Alfred T. Houghton, Albany. N.Y. and Robert S. Houghton. Syracuse, N.Y.: 2 grandchildren, Janet and Bruce Houghton, Albany.

Former Syracuse resident Robert S. Houghton, 80, died Nov. 24 in Port Charlotte, Fla. Services will be at a later date.

A native of Pittston, Pa., Mr. Houghton lived in Syracuse before moving to Port Charlotte in 1977. He retired after 25 years as a self-employed public accountant. Mr. Houghton was a 1935 graduate of Syracuse University.

Mr. Houghton was a third-degree member of Konosioni Lodge 950, F&AM, and a past monarch of Keder Khan Grotto.

Surviving are his wife, Frances; a niece; and a nephew.

Contributions may be made to Keder Khan Grotto, in care of Raymond Coseo, 207 Highland Drive, North Syracuse 13212.

National Cremation Society has charge of arrangements.

VOORHEESVILLE - Bruce Alfred Houghton, 70, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Guilderland Center. Bruce was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Hudson Valley Community College, and the Institute of Design and Construction in New York City. He began his career as an architectural designer in New York City and Albany, before accepting the position of superintendent of buildings and grounds for the Bethlehem Central School District, a position he held for 30 years.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Cheryl (Carlstrom) Houghton; his daughter, Kristin Houghton Richard; his son, Ted Houghton; his daughter-in-law Mary Houghton , his sister, Janet Ingraham; and brother-in–law, the Honorable Irad Ingraham; and his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Richard and Fiona Houghton.
Bruce devoted a good portion of his life serving his community. He was a former member of the Slingerlands Fire Department and a former captain with the Slingerlands Rescue Squad. In addition, he was involved with New Scotland Kiwanis, Voorheesville Babe Ruth, Guilderland Pop Warner, and helped to found New Scotland Pop Warner. He was also an active member of the New Scotland Republican Party, the Concerned Citizens of New Scotland, and the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be conducted on Friday, June 8 at 3 p.m. from the Voorheesville First United Methodist Church, 68 Maple Ave., Voorheesville, NY 12186. A calling hour will be observed starting at 2 p.m. prior to the service.
