New Brunswick, N.J., Dec. 5-- Edward F. Houghton of 52 Mitchell Avenue, former sheriff of Middlesex County, died yesterday at the age of 80.
Mr. Houghton was born here, the son of William E. and Alida Albright Houghton. He served for many years with the volunteer fire department and also with the New Brunswick draft board in the first World War. He was a former chairman of the Board of Adjustment and the oldest Past Exalted Ruler of the New Brunswick Lodge of Elks.
Survivors include his widow, two sons, three daughters and three sisters.8

Houghton, a missionary, was made to her brother Edward and two sisters here today in the transmission by telephone of cable advices. It later was learned that Miss Houghton's name had been confused with that of Miss Anna Hancock, missionary in India of the Dutch Reformed Church in America, whose home is in New York State. Miss Hancock died yesterday of cholera at Vellore.2
