Aug. 1, 1918, son of Henry and Gladys (Ploof) Houghton. He was a graduate of Springfield ( Vt.) High School. Mr. Houghton had been employed a a mechanical engineering gear specialist with Fellow Gear Shaper Co. in Springfield, Vt., for 44 years, retiring in 1977. He was also a Held representative of the firm for 35 years. He had resided in Southbridge for 30 years. A lover of animals, he was Interested in the research of hip replacement in dogs that was later applied to humans. He was a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge in Springfield, Vt., Worcester Council, Loyal and Select Masters; Scottish Rites Bodies of Boston nod a life member of the National Rifle Association. - s. , Survivors are his wife, Marian (Putnam) Houghton of Southbridge; a daughter, Mr. William (Marilyn) Cass of West Springfield; two sons, Also C. Houghton of Southbridge and James P. Houghton of Sturbridge; two brothers, Frank Houghton of Springfield, Vt., and Raymond Houghton of Walpole. N.H; two sisters, Hra. Keith (Ruth) Stearns of Springfield, Vt., and Mrs. 'Winston (Dorothy) Cook of Chester, Vt; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Bullard's Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. In Southbridge. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, also in Southbridge. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to (p.m. The family has requested, in lieu of floweri, memorial contributions to the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, 350 Huntington Ave., Boston, Mass. 02130.

SOUTHBRIDGE - Marian (Putnam) Houghton, 84, of Southbridge, died yesterday in the Masonic Home, Charlton, after an illness.

Her husband, Carl S. Houghton, died in 1984. She leaves two sons, Alan C. Houghton and James P. Houghton, both of Southbridge; a daughter, Marilyn (Houghton) Cass of West Springfield; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Weathersfield Center, Vt., daughter of Leon R. and Edith (Roberts) Putnam, and lived in Southbridge since 1953.

Mrs. Houghton opened and managed the Salvation Army Thrift Store, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Weathersfield Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Elm Street Congregational Church. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The First Congregational Church of Weathersfield Center, RR 1, Box 297, Perkinsville, Vt. 05151. Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., is directing arrangements.6

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Jeanne (Boudreau) Houghton; two sons, David Houghton and his wife Chantal of Alton, NH, Brian Houghton and his wife Begonia of Littleton; two daughters, Katherine Houghton of Leominster, and Karen Kane of Ft. Myers, FL; a sister, Marilyn Cass of West Springfield; three grandchildren, Tyler, Jason, and Caroline; and several nephews and nieces. A brother, James Houghton, died Jan. 23, 2007.

He graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield, VT, Vermont Technical College, and attended Bryant College.

He worked for the U.S. Department of Defense, Air Force Contract Mangement Division for 30 yrs. retiring in 1992. He served in the US Air Force. He was an avid football fan, enjoyed bird watching, and most of all he enjoyed his family.

At his request, services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of: Alan Houghton, 94 Marc Ave., Southbridge, MA 01550 and sent to the American Heart Association, North East Affiliate, P.O. SPRINGFIELD - Frank H. Houghton, 86, formerly of West Windsor, died Jan. 27, 2009, at his home.

He was born April 20, 1922, in Rockingham, the son of Henry and Gladys (Ploof) Houghton.

He graduated in 1940 from Springfield High School and in 1950 from the Vermont School of Agriculture in Randolph.

Mr. Houghton was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.

He married Eleanor Merrill in North Springfield on May 9, 1952.

He farmed in West Windsor for many years and was employed at Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield for many years until his retirement in 1981.

Mr. Houghton served on West Windsor School Board, West Windsor Select Board and as a lister for the town of Weathersfield.

He was a member of American Legion Post in Montpelier and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of Springfield; a son, David Houghton of South Charlestown, N.H; a daughter, Judy Spaulding of North Springfield; a brother, Raymond Houghton of Walpole, N.H; two sisters, Ruth Stearns and Dorothy Cook, both of Chester; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Houghton.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.

At Mr. Houghton's request, burial will be at a later date in Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor.8

ObituaryJan 9, 2018CHESTER - Dorothy H. Cook, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow.
She was born May 29, 1925, in Bellows Falls, the daughter of Henry and Gladys (Ploof) Houghton.
She graduated in 1943 from Chester High School.
In 1944, she married N. Paul Howe in Chester; he died in 1966. She married Winston Cook in 1976 in Chester; he died in 1998.
Mrs. Cook attended Thompson School of Nursing and was employed at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Bellows Falls as a LPN for 16 years until her retirement.
She served as treasurer and on the board of trustees of Chester Baptist Church. She was also a member of Chester Seniors Association.
She enjoyed knitting booties and mittens to donate to Springfield Hospital. She was an avid reader and fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots.
Survivors include two children Becky Howe, of Brownsville, Russell Howe, of Hubbardton; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cook was also predeceased by a son, Benjamin Howe, and four siblings Ruth Stearns, Carl, Frank and Raymond Houghton.
The memorial graveside service will be at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery in Chester.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chester Baptist Church, 162 Main St., Chester, VT 05143.

He was born April 7, 1927, in Bellows Falls, Vt., the son of Henry E. and Gladys (Ploof) Houghton.

He was a 1947 graduate of Chester High School in Chester, Vt.

He worked in farming and for RN Johnson, Inc. until retirement.

He was a member and assistant chief of the Walpole Fire Department. He was co-founder of the Walpole Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

He served in the United States Army.

He was an avid woodworker.

On Oct. 25, 1953 in Brattleboro, Vt., he married Arlene C. Gallup, who survives him. He is also survived by two sons, Kenneth R. Houghton of Tavares, Fla., and Ross H. Houghton of Charlestown, N.H; two daughters, Louise A. Clark of Newfane, Vt., and Raylene H. Sperling of Goldsboro, N.C; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Cook of Chester, Vt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Carl Houghton; one sister Ruth Stearns; and a grandson, David Clark.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Walpole.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Walpole Fire Department, PO Box 162, Walpole, NH 03608.
